Looking like it might have flown straight out of the Jurassic, the rare and reclusive Horned Guan (Oreophasis derbianus) possesses one of the most remarkable head ornaments of all birds. They live only high in the cloud forests of Chiapas and Guatemala and over the past hundred years have suffered greatly from habitat loss and hunting, with some current surveys estimating at fewer than 1000 birds remaining in the wild.
